Noreffendy Tamaldin received his BSc Degree in Mechanical Engineering (Honors CUM Laude) in 1998 and M.Eng in Mechanical Engineering with Mechatronics specialization in 2000 from the University of Hartford, Connecticut, United States. He received several academic awards during his degree program in University of Hartford such as the Malaysian Embassy Academic Excellency Award, Cum Laude Award and ASME Senior Capstone Project Award in 1998. He received his PhD Degree in Automotive Engineering from Coventry University, United Kingdom in 2010 with a collaboration research consortium between Jaguar Land Rover, Ford Motor, EMCON Technologies (Faurecia), and Johnson Matthey. In 2014 he has successfully completed Executive Leadership program at Kellog School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago, USA.
He has completed internship at Department of Environmental Protection, State of Connecticut in Hartford at the end of BSc program. During his M.Eng. degree, He had been working as Research Engineer in Engineering Application Center (EAC), University of Hartford and responsible for the publication of textbook entitled Design for Product Success. He have also been teaching module related to Design for Manufacturing and Assembly courses using the Boothroyd Dewhurst DFMA® software tools to engineers from Lego Systems, Pratt & Whitney and John Deer at EAC.
Coming back from the United States, he joined Motorola Semiconductor in Seremban which later becomes ON Semiconductor. His position as New Product Introduction and Development Engineer at ON Semiconductor requires vigorous design work to ensure flexibility of product and platform in the semiconductor industry. The DFMA have become an essential tool throughout his job function as R&D engineer. He also won six ONSEMI patent disclosure awards within utilizing this tool. He also held the design rules for semiconductor packaging involving, front end, molding, trim and forming, final test and inspection processes in the development of new product.
In 2001 he joined Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University Technology MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam as lecturer teaching CAD, Thermodynamics, Machine Design and Plant Engineering. The same tool has been utilized for teaching purpose in optimization of product in manufacturing. Then in May 2002 he joined Automotive Department, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, UTeM.
After coming back from PhD in 2010, he managed to secure several internal research funds from UTeM and recently a fundamental research grant from MOSTI. He has successfully graduated 2 Phd and 11 MSc students while currently supervising 5 PhD and 3 M.Sc. students. He has also supervised more than 50 of B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering final year student project throughout his 15 years of service in UTeM. He has been appointed for approximately 16 viva examination session (for Phd and M.Sc.) from UTM, UiTM, UTHM, Unimap, and UTeM. several journal and conferences reviewer such as IJMIC, UK, ICMER2011, ICEI2012 and recently ICAFBE 2012. He has been invited to give public lecture and invited speaker in various session including Keynote speaker for APSIM2016 and Automotive Hybrid Technology Seminar 2014, Smart Automotive Climate Control 2012, Wiesbaden Germany, Innovation Program at Kolej Komuniti Wilayah Melaka and Negeri Sembilan, Innovation Program at MRSM Kem Terendak, EFGO Scientific and also ADTEC Melaka. At present, he is the Deputy Head of Green Tribology & Engine Performance (G-TriboE) Research group in Center of Advance Research on Energy (CARe), Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, (UTeM)
His research interests include Engine Tribology, Engine performance, emission and instrumentation, Electric Vehicle, Hybrid technologies and Alternative fuels (Biodiesel).
